Measuring change across a national agriculture programme
The Smallholder Agriculture Development Project II works across Lesotho's ten districts to strengthen the resilience and productivity of smallholder farmers. Its programme concerns include climate-smart agriculture, commercial horticulture, livestock production, market access and dietary diversity.
The annual outcome survey was commissioned to generate evidence on programme performance and participant experience. It required a nationally distributed field operation capable of producing consistent, usable data across different agricultural and geographic settings.
Designing fieldwork for coverage and quality
Analytica's contribution covered survey and sample design, mobilisation and training of field teams, digital data collection, quality assurance and analysis. The work combined field coordination with data controls so that issues could be identified while collection was underway rather than only after the survey closed.
The assignment reached 4,603 beneficiaries across all ten districts and mobilised more than 100 enumerators. These are measures of the survey's evidence base and delivery scale. They do not by themselves describe programme impact, which depends on the findings and interpretation contained in the commissioned outcome work.
Turning survey evidence into programme learning
Analysis focused on the outcomes and programme questions defined for the annual survey. The deliverables connected cleaned and quality-assured data with interpretation that the programme could use for review and learning.
